How do you get to school?
Q: 何で学校に行きますか？ How do you get to school?
A: (transport) で学校に行きます。 I get to school by (transport).
The で here, means by. As in, how something is done by.
To be more specific, you can even replace 学校 with the specific school type you go to, but this usually is omitted for simplicity.
Forms of transport
- Car: くるま
- Bus: バス
- Train: でんしゃ
- Bicycle: じてんしゃ
- Scooter: スクーター
- Taxi: タクシー
- Walking (Special): あるいて
When saying that you walk, you must modify the structure and drop the で. No で for あるいて.
